Lorna Kidjo

Actor and Filmmaker

LORNA KIDJO is a bilingual Canadian filmmaker, producer, writer, and actor, born in Belgium with Beninese heritage. Her work moves between dark comedy, horror, and drama, with a focus on intimate, character-driven stories shaped by cultural specificity and contradiction.

She made her directorial debut with the dark comedy-horror short Fester, which premiered at the Fantasia International Film Festival and later broadcast on CINÉ+ across Europe. Her second short film, Oversight, won Best Actress at the Reelworld Film Festival, was shortlisted for Sundance, and is currently streaming on CBC Gem as part of the Canadian Reflections program.

Lorna is the founder of Soirée Films Inc. (formerly Stellar Collision Inc.), an independent production company developing women-led projects for film and television. As a producer, she has shepherded projects through all stages of development and production and is currently developing two feature films supported by the Canada Council for the Arts.

Alongside her producing work, Lorna is an active writer. She has worked as Assistant to Screenwriter on Henri Pardo’s Afro-Canada series for Radio-Canada, served as script editor on the ICI TOU.TV series Les Météorites, and is co-lead writer on Bana Konessans, a youth fiction series for TFO.

As an actor, she has appeared in series including Plan B (CBC), Transplant (CTV/NBC), Wong & Winchester (Citytv), Pillow Talk (Crave), and Mrs. America (FX). She recently wrapped Télé-Québec’s upcoming mini-series Temps-Partiel, directed by Édith Kabuya, in which she played one of the lead roles, as well as an independent feature film shot in West Africa.

Lorna works across Canada, Europe, and Africa, and holds Belgian, Canadian, and Beninese citizenship.
